Prospective Students

Prospective students of McNeese's Radiologic Sciences program should be willing to work with sick and injured patients.  Attention to detail and accuracy is imperative.  An ability to be versatile, empathetic, congenial and understanding are desirable traits.  Since  at times the Radiographer works under stress, the ability to cope with a stressful situation is important.  Prospective students should also consider the technical standards for the program before declaring Radiologic Sciences as a major.

Technical Standards

Clinical and laboratory assignments for the program require certain physical demands which are the technical standards of the program.  The purpose of technical standards are to inform prospective students of the physical and sensory demands necessary to perform the minimum tasks of a radiographer.

Communicate instructions to people in English,

bullet

Read and apply appropriate instructions in charts, notes, and records,

bullet

Reach up to a height of six (6) feet,

bullet

Push a wheelchair or stretcher and ancillary equipment safely from the patient waiting area or patient's room to examination room,

bullet

Move immobile patient on and off of the examination table,

bullet

Maneuver patient while on the examination table,

bullet

 Lift ten (10) pounds of weight up and above head,

bullet

 Visually monitor patient in low levels of light,

bullet

Respond to patient and audible devices during equipment operations,

bullet

Manipulate equipment and controls with push buttons, knobs, hand and foot switches, and

bullet

Perform all aspects of CPR and Basic Life Support.
